On Sunday, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon expressed “regret” in a statement to the political news website Axios over the remarks he made about US President Donald Trump and his son. Bannon’s comments were revealed in author Michael Wolff’s bombshell book “Fire and Fury,” which Trump continues to criticize over Twitter.

“My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama,” Bannon said. “President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus.”

In Wolff’s book, Bannon was quoted as describing Donald Trump, Jr.’s controversial meeting with a group of Russians as “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.” Regarding the quotes, Bannon said: “Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around.”

Trump’s latest tweet about the book was released on Sunday. “I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President,” he wrote. “Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!”

In an earlier tweet, Trump called Wolff “a total loser” and accused him of making up “stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book.” Trump then mocked Bannon, saying that Wolff used “Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job. Now Sloppy Steve has been dumped like a dog by almost everyone.”
