US lawmakers from both parties are speaking out against President Donald Trump’s policy of separating children of immigrants from their parents at the border.
Laura Bush, the former first lady, called the policy “cruel” and “immoral.” “I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart,” she wrote in a guest column for the Washington Post on Sunday.
Religious leaders and other influential figures in Trump’s right-wing base have also questioned the morality of the policy.
In a Twitter rant on Monday, Trump blamed Democrats for current issues relating to the immigration process. “Why don’t the Democrats give us the votes to fix the world’s worst immigration laws?” Trump wrote. “Where is the outcry for the killings and crime being caused by gangs and thugs, including MS-13, coming into our country illegally?”
Children are being used by some of the worst criminals on earth as a means to enter our country. Has anyone been looking at the Crime taking place south of the border. It is historic, with some countries the most dangerous places in the world. Not going to happen in the U.S.

“The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition,” he added. “We don’t want what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us!”
