Kensington Palace announced on Friday that Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have named their newborn baby Louis Arthur Charles.
“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge,” the announcement said. Prince Louis is the third son of William and Kate and the younger brother of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. He is fifth in line to the throne.
The naming of Prince Louis, who was born on Monday, took longer than usual, as the royal couple’s first two children were named just two days after being born.
On Wednesday, Prince William made a comment that led many to believe the name Alexander might be a likely option. During a public appearance, a person in the crowd suggested the name, to which William replied, “Funny you should say that.”
