The UN commemorated this year’s International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which coincides with the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, with a ceremony at the General Assembly. International dignitaries and diplomats attended the event.

The world bowed their heads in memory of victims of the Holocaust. At the UN General Assembly in New York, a ceremony took place today (Friday) marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day This year’s remembrance day coincides with the 72nd Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau from the Nazis in 1945 by the Allied Forces.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thompson and journalist and Auschwitz death camp survivor Noah Klieger were among those leading the event.
Klieger is considered an expert in the history of the Holocaust and World War II. He has published thousands of articles on these topics throughout his long career. Klieger has also lectured in Israel and around the world on issues related to the Holocaust and over the years, he has led to dozens of Israeli delegations on visits to the concentration camps in Europe.
Earlier today, the traditional remembrance ceremony was held at Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland with the participation of Holocaust survivors who came from Israel. The survivors laid wreaths at the camp and attended the annual ceremony commemorating the six million murdered Jews.
