At an emergency meeting on Tuesday following the violent Israel-Gaza border clashes, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley voiced her country’s unwavering support for Israel and placed the blame on Hamas. She also denied that the violence had anything to do with the US embassy move to Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley blamed Hamas for the Palestinian deaths in the recent clashes with the IDF and insisted that Israel had acted with restraint to the unprecedented violence.
“Let’s remember that the Hamas terrorist organization has been inciting violence for years, long before the United States decided to move our embassy,” Haley said during Tuesday’s emergency meeting of the Security Council. “This is what is endangering the people of Gaza. Make no mistake, Hamas is pleased with the results from yesterday.”
Hamas has encouraged violence in the area and urged Palestinians to breach the fence and throw flaming objects towards Israeli territory, Haley said. “In recent days, multiple news organizations have documented the Hamas incitement in Gaza,” she added. “They have reported on Hamas messages over loudspeakers that urge demonstrators to burst through the fence, falsely claiming Israeli soldiers were fleeing, when in fact, they were not.”
In response to claims that the IDF used excessive force against unarmed protesters, Haley stated that “no country in this chamber would act with more restraint than Israel has.”
Later, the ambassador walked out of the chamber when Palestinian Authority representative Riyad Mansour began his speech. Mansour placed the blame for the high death toll on Israel and called for an international inquiry into the clashes.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon responded to Mansour’s statements in a series of tweets. “Mr. Mansour and his friends are guilty of placing young Palestinian children in harm’s way. They are guilty of exploiting them for their disgraceful public relations game,” he wrote. “When the Palestinians say ‘days of rage,’ they mean ‘days of terrorism.’ When the Palestinians say ‘right of return,’ they mean ‘destruction of Israel.’ And when the Palestinians say ‘peaceful protest,’ they mean ‘incitement and violence.’”
The Security Council must not give in to the cycle of death that the Palestinians have created. You must call out lies when you see them, condemn Hamas’ violence, and place yourselves on the side of truth and the right side of history. END
