Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump met on Monday afternoon in the White House for their fifth meeting since the latter took office in January 2017. Before their private meeting began, the two sat down for a photo op and delivered short statements.

Netanyahu mostly spoke about the Iranian threat that has reached Israel’s border. “We have to stop this country that chants ‘death to Israel, death to America,’” he said. “Iran must be stopped.”

The Israeli prime minister then commented on the chance for Middle East peace, stressing the importance of seizing the current opportunity. “The Arabs have never been closer to Israel; Israel has never been closer to the Arabs,” Netanyahu claimed.

Netanyahu also praised Trump and thanked him for his support of Israel. According to Netanyahu, the Israeli-American alliance has never been stronger, and the people of Israel appreciate Trump’s position on Jerusalem and Iran. “Thank you for your leadership and thank you for your tremendous friendship,” he told the American leader.
