The Polish government announced on Monday that it is canceling its invitation for Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett’s visit. Bennett stated on Monday that he would be flying to Poland in order to meet with several local leaders, where he wished to assert that the Poles are attempting to rewrite history. “The past can’t be rewritten – the Polish people were involved in the murder of Jews,” Bennett said.

Bennett’s controversial words sparked outrage in Poland, where his statement was extensively covered by local media. As a result of the tension caused by his words, the Polish government decided to cancel Bennet’s visit.

On Monday, Bennett claimed that during his trip to Poland, he would teach the Poles about their past. “I’m determined to say clearly that history has already proven – the Polish people had proven engagement in the murder of Jews during the Holocaust,” Bennet stated. “I came to speak the truth in the place where the truth occurred and it isn’t dependent on one law or another.”
