The UK has announced that it will purchase the Israeli Iron Dome missile defense technology for 104 million dollars. According to the British Defense Ministry, the system will be used to improve the defense of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The technology will be implemented in the British Sky Sabre system and will replace the existing defense system by 2020. The decision was made after France announced a deal to sell Argentina five Super Étendard fighter jets, the same jets the South American country deployed the 1982 Falklands War against the UK.
According to a British Defense Ministry spokesperson: “Following an open competition, we selected Rafael for a 78-million-pound contract to provide the main computer system which will link our state-of-the-art radars and new Land Ceptor launchers together to boost our defense of the Falkland Islands.”
