White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders voiced America’s support for the Israeli response to a large-scale Iranian rocket attack early Thursday morning.

“Israel absolutely has a sovereign right to defend itself,” Sanders said on Wednesday in an interview with Fox News “This activity and this action is just a further demonstration that the Iranian regime cannot be trusted.”

“The president made the right decision to get out of the Iran deal,” Sanders stated when asked about US President Donald Trump’s resolution to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

On Tuesday, Trump announced his country’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was signed in 2015 between Iran and six world powers. Less than two hours after Trump announced his decision, Iranian sites in Syria were targeted in an attack that foreign media claims Israel carried out.

It is believed that the alleged Israeli attack was what prompted Syria-based Iranian forces to fire over 20 rockets at Israel early Thursday morning. No damage or injuries were caused by the Iranian attack, and most of the rockets fell in Syrian territory. In response, the IDF attacked dozens of Quds Force military targets in the Arab country. The Israeli military stated that the Israeli Air Force strikes severely weakened Iran’s military infrastructure in Syria, crowning the air raids “a great success.”
