In the wake of the ongoing crisis in relations between American Jews and Israel and following Hotovely’s remarks, the Conservative Judaism movement in the US slammed Netanyahu, publishing a video in which it claims that the Israeli Prime Minister presented “alternative facts” concerning the Western Wall agreement.
Despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s denouncement, Jews in the diaspora have not forgotten Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Hotovely’s remarks and they claim that it is Netanyahu who spoiled Israel’s relationship with American Jews. A video posted by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) in the US slams Netanyahu for his failed promises regarding the Western Wall agreement and reminds him that the flames have not burned out. “Shame on you, Mr. Prime Minister,” the video reads.
This past Friday, MK David Bitan stated that the timing of Hotovely’s remarks was not good as Israel had “just lowered the flames with American Jews.” However, the Masorti movement said that “reprimanding Hotovely and threatening dismissal won’t hide the obvious fact that Netanyahu is the one who spoiled the relations with American Jews and this matter will not be removed from any agenda.”

The USCJ directly attacked Netanyahu in its video along with his speech at the Jewish Federation of North America conference two weeks ago where, according to the USCJ, Netanyahu presented “alternative facts” while explaining that the Israeli government did not completely freeze the Western Wall agreement, but rather only “the most ideologically charged elements of the Western Wall plan.”

“The government cancelled the Western Wall agreement and you tell a story, in English, as if you are implementing its essential elements,” claims the video, which goes on to list the compromises reached within the agreement that were later canceled by the Israeli government. “As if the issue is only an “improvement” of the existing egalitarian space ‘Ezrat Yisrael.’ Seriously? Shame on you, Mr. Prime Minister.”
