Gal Friedman, a retired windsurfer who won a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics in 2004, the only Israeli with such an award, wants to sell it now because he “needs the money”.

Friedman wrote on his Facebook page that he is looking for “an eBay expert who knows how to auction an exceptional, one-of-a-kind object in Israel”.

When other users of the social network started asking him questions about the object, he said it was his Olympic medal.

Some of the Internet users wanted to know how much he expected to win, others asked him not to auction it and Friedman answered “only answers from serious people with a lot of money”.

Interviewed by the digital Walla Sport, the ex-sportsman said that for now he only was researching how much it cost, and that he was doing it because he needed the money.

Since his retirement in 2008,he has been a windsurf instructor and photographer for weddings and other events.
