After terrorists fired at Israeli soldiers yesterday and the IDF responded by attacking Islamic Jihad snipers near Khan Younis, one ponders how Trump’s peace plan will come into fruition given that peace now appears more distant than ever, especially given that all the Palestinian terror groups have rejected it.  In fact, Palestinian Media Watch recently reported that Abbas’ Fatah urged its followers on Facebook to “reshare” a video of a small Jordanian boy, Amir, who is off to Jerusalem to avenge Palestinian terrorist murderer Omar Abu Laila who was killed by Israeli soldiers when he resisted arrest after having murdered 2 Israelis in 2019.”

According to the Palestinian Media Watch report, “The child soldier, Amir, who is wearing a military uniform, carrying a slingshot in one hand and holding a toy rifle, explains to his mother that he wants to ‘shoot the Jews who shot Omar’ – the Palestinian terrorist murderer – and if necessary to ‘die for Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque’ because they ‘deserve’ that ‘we die for [them].’”  This is not the rhetoric delivered by a potential partner for peace.   And if this is how Fatah, the so-called moderate PA political movement, speaks to its own supporters, one can only imagine how horrific Hamas and Islamic Jihad rhetoric is.

Mendi Safadi, who heads the Safadi Center for International Diplomacy, Research, Public Relations and Human Rights, stated in an exclusive interview: “It was expected that the Palestinian Authority would reject the ‘deal of the century,’ just as they opposed the 1948 UN Partition Plan.  The State of Israel obtained independence and over the last 70 years, has become a world power in many areas, despite the wars, the terror attacks and the strategic threats that hover over us today.”

Sadly, the Arab world has not followed suite: “As the descendants of the Arabs of Mandatory Palestine have dispersed across the world as refugees and no longer live on the lands that they claim to own, there are no Arab states today in which people live freely.  In fact, most Arabs today dream of immigrating to the West.  The refusal of the ‘deal of the century’ indicates a lack of desire for peace.  Those who are getting rich off the conflict do not want to give up on their dubious income.  Just as Yasser Arafat’s daughter, who did not work a day in her life, inherited billions of dollars, so did the leaders that enrich themselves and their children off the conflict refuse to end it.”

Nevertheless, even though the Palestinian side rejects the ‘deal of the century,’ former Israel Consul General to Miami, former Israel Consul General to Chicago and former Deputy Mayor of Netanya Dr. Yitzchak Ben Gad believes that the Jewish state must abide by the plan, even though the other side rejects it: “Israel would have secure and recognized borders under the ‘deal of the century,’ as envisioned in UN Security Council Resolution 242.  This plan allows for Israel to start out by annexing 30% of Judea and Samaria.  Jerusalem is recognized as the undivided capital of the State of Israel.  There will be Israeli sovereignty in the Jordan Valley and the Northern Dead Sea.  Jews from Arab countries will get compensated for their properties.”

Under the ‘deal of the century, the onus is on the Palestinian side to make concessions: “The Palestinians have four years to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and only then they can have demilitarized state.  They will be forced to stop their incitement and to stop paying the shahids.  Therefore, the Palestinians have a tough decision to make.  If they want a state, they must accept the plan.  While in the past Israel froze everything, Israel can now build in that 30% of Judea and Samaria like in Tel Aviv.  Therefore, the Palestinians have a huge frog to swallow.  It is forbidden for us to miss this opportunity.”

For this reason, Dr. Ben Gad believes that it is critical that everyone support the Likud in the upcoming elections for “Gantz wants an agreement with the other side.”  He believes that only the Likud can see this favorable plan come into fruition: “Israel will have no better president than Trump.   So, Israel should emphasize the benefits and be smart enough to fulfill the plan.  The Palestinian side will not change their blind rejectionist policy.  They never had a leader like Ben-Gurion. From the Grand Mufti to Yasser Arafat to Abu Mazen, it is the same rejectionist attitude.  They don’t want peace with Israel.  They are at the lowest point in their history.”

Dr. Ben Gad noted that while Abu Mazen complained about the borders Trump gave him, he noted that Israel was offered even worse borders under the UN Partition Plan and they still said yes for they wanted a state: “When you don’t want to face reality, sooner or later, you will have troubles.”  However, he does not believe that this should be an impediment to Israel getting what it desires out of a peace plan.   Therefore, Trump’s ‘deal of the century’ is still relevant, even though the Palestinian side has rejected it for it gives Israel the greenlight to create facts on the ground, thus finally granting the Jewish state secure and recognized borders.
