Today (Friday) a 23-year-old Palestinian arrived at one of the IDF checkpoints in the area of the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron and was arrested a short while later. The Hebron resident aroused the suspicion of the IDF commander at the checkpoint, who insisted on conducting a full body search on the suspect.
The Israel Border Police reported that after the suspect resisted the search, the officers found that he was carrying a knife on him. The suspect was taken by Israeli security forces for an investigation, in which it was revealed that he apparently tried to commit a stabbing attack at the checkpoint.
“The alertness of the Israel Border Police officers, who noticed the suspicious signs, insisted on conducting a thorough search, seized a knife found on the body of the suspect and arrested him may have prevented a stabbing attack directed against them or against worshipers at the site,” the Israel Police and Border Police stated after the incident had come to an end.
Last Wednesday, an IDF force detected and arrested two suspects, both minors, who were carrying knives near the fence surrounding the settlement of Migdal Oz. In their preliminary investigation, the suspects admitted that they were sent to the settlement in order to commit a terror attack.
