The Palestinian Authority has disrupted a planned suicide attack in Israeli territory, by the Islamic State. The suicide bomber has been identified as Alaa Bashir, a 23-year-old teacher residing in Kalkiliya, West Bank. She was arrested at the Othman Bin Affan mosque while she was teaching children the Koran.

The arrest of Bashir sparked a massive online campaign in favor of her release, claiming that the PA arrested a noblewoman who was teaching Koran, and also desecrated the mosque she was teaching in.

A senior Palestinian official told Yediot Aharonot that Bashir joined the Islamic State after joining the ISIS encrypted messenger platform Telegram. ISIS agents in Syria and the Gaza Strip htaught hew how to assemble an explosive device, and how best to prepare and perform the suicide mission.

Bashir’s detention is an embarrassment for the PA, because her family is tied to a high ranking PA intelligence officer, reports Yediot Aharonot.

Palestinian security forces have disrupted several attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers in the past year.

The security cooperation of the PA with Israel continues, despite the refusal of Mahmoud Abbas to accept the taxes collected for them by Israel, because Israel is deducting from those payments the amount given to support the families of terrorists who are either imprisoned or killed.
