According to French media reports, gunshots were fired Thursday night at the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Local authorities told people to avoid the area.
A police official told Reuters that one police officer was killed and another injured. The shooter, whose identity is still unknown, has reportedly been shot dead. Eye witnesses told of a man who exited his vehicle holding a Kalashnikov and fired at a police officer.
Though the incident was initially suspected as a terror attack, statements from three police sources suggested it may have been an attempted armed robbery.
