Following reports that US President Donald Trump intends to propose an independent Palestinian state, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the security interests of Israel will be the factor that will determine the Israeli response when the plan is officially presented.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday the only consideration that will guide him on whether or not to accept the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan is Israel’s security.
Channel 2 News reported on Saturday that US President Donald Trump’s plan is based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, though not necessarily according to the 1967 borders. It was also reported that the plan does not include the evacuation of either Jews or Arabs from their homes at this stage.
“I keep hearing all kinds of speculations,” Netanyahu said during a Likud meeting. “If President Trump lays out a plan, the only thing that will guide me are Israel’s national security interests.”

Though the White House has denied the reports, several right-wing Israeli politicians have already voiced their sharp opposition to the reported plan. Uri Ariel, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the National Union party – which is currently part of HaBayit Hayehudi – will not sit in a government that will support a Palestinian state.
