Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday declared Kim Jong-Un, the leader of North Korea, as the winner in the latest standoff with South Korea and the United States over the north’s nuclear and long-range missile development program.

In a meeting with Russian journalists, Putin called Kim “a competent and mature politician,” adding that only negotiations can resolve the crisis in the Koran Peninsula over Pyongyang’s frequent missile tests.

Last week, it was reported that South Korea offered to hold talks with the north regarding the inclusion of North Korean athletes in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
