As reported earlier by JOL, the Russian government is still contemplating an appropriated response to sanctions imposed on the country by the US government and the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats in response to its interference with the 2016 US presidential elections. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin expel 35 American diplomats. Shortly after, Putin announced that Russia will not be expelling any diplomats in an attempt to ease tensions.
Furthermore, US President-elect Donald Trump addressed for the first time the expulsion of Russian diplomats and US tensions with Russia. “It’s time for our country to move on to bigger and better things,” Trump said in an official statement. “Nevertheless, in the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with leaders of the intelligence community next week in order to be updated on the facts of this situation,” he said, only insinuating the US-Russia tensions.
