More than a decade after the criminal attack that shook the country and changed the relations between the police and criminal organizations, the story is again floating to the headlines as a result of Case 512.  Now, the families of the three innocent bystanders who were killed in the attack are again faced with the pain of the loss of their loved ones.

“It is hard for the parents to bring up these memories again,” Nani Meged, the aunt of Naftali Meged who was killed in the attack at age 19, stated. “They are reliving the pain all over again. I do not know if the parents were contacted. I just heard about it on the news. Beyond that, I know nothing.”

“I hope that they get what they deserve,” Meged added. “It does not make it any easier, but they need to stop the rampage of these criminals so that others will not be harmed. We have enough terrorists in this country. We don’t also need these criminals.”

Similar feelings were also raised by Rafi Serouya, brother of Rachamim Serouya, another victim of the attack who was 43-years-old at the time of his death. “It would be great if they were arrested, so that others will not be hurt,” he told Channel 2 News Online.

“We cannot bring Rachamim back, so the most important thing is to make sure that they do not harm more innocent people,” he added. “We have always said that the day will come that the person who committed this crime will be caught. Today, they called us and told us that the case is in the process of being solved.”

“It took me back to that day,” Serouya stated. “I went then to look for him and I arrived at Abu Kabir. I received the news. I do not know if it is really them, but I hope that they solve this case.”

Serouya, Meged, and Moshe Mizrachi, who was 28-years-old during the attack, were killed in the attempted assassination of Ze’ev Rosenstein in December 2003 when powerful explosives were detonated on Yehuda Halevi Street in Tel Aviv. The explosion, which reminded many of a terrorist attack, caused great destruction in the city and the deaths of three bystanders.

19 other people were wounded in the attack that is considered one of the worst in the history of organized crime in Israel. It is said that this event changed the police’s perception of the rogue organizations.
