Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon has warned the UN that Hamas intends to escalate the area in its planned “March of the Million” protest on Friday, according to a Hadashot News report. In a letter, Danon explained that the terrorist organization is paying Gazans to approach the border fence and incite violence.

Israel has appealed to the UN ahead of Friday’s mass protest and warned that the Palestinians in Gaza are attempting to escalate the situation in the area. According to a report in Hadashot News, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon on Thursday sent a letter detailing the current tensions to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

In the letter, Danon reportedly warned the UN that Hamas has dedicated nearly $10 million to prepare for the protests on Friday and on May 15, when the US embassy is expected to be transferred to Jerusalem. Hamas has used some of this sum to pay Gazans to participate in the protest, Danon added. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority continued to freeze utility payments to Gaza’s residents.

Danon also wrote that Israel condemned the Palestinian attempt to escalate the area and incite violence, adding that he expects that UN diplomats will avoid supporting the Palestinian march. Danon further stressed that Israel had a right to defend itself in light of the volatile situation.

As previously reported by JOL, Hamas has urged Gaza’s residents to march towards the border fence during the “March of the Million,” while other Palestinian organizers said the protesters, which are expected to include entire families, would not approach the border.  On Tuesday, Israel warned Gaza’s civilians that Hamas is using its funds to prepare for a “march of chaos” instead resolving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
