About 6,000 Chinese construction workers will arrive in Israel in a government effort to relieve the housing crisis, Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon was quoted as saying Wednesday.
According to a report on i24news, an Israeli delegation and China’s commerce ministry have signed a draft agreement to send the workers to Israel. They will arrive over a period of six months following the final signature, which is expected at the end of February.
The high cost of living in Israel has been a major political issue since a wave of demonstrations erupted in 2011.
The Israeli Interior Ministry said the deal would protect the rights of the Chinese workers.
