In a telephone conversation between District Planner Dalit Zilber and Chairman of Jerusalem’s Local Committee Meir Turgeman, Zilber claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to unfreeze the construction plans and provided immediate instructions to prepare the construction.

According to Israel’s Channel 2 News, the report refers to thousands of housing units across the Green Line that were ‘stuck’ until today in the District Committee due to political pressures. “Thousands of these housing units were frozen for long years,” Turgeman said. “Jerusalem really needs more housing. For me, this is not about the Green Line but about Jerusalem. We are building and hoping that the Prime Minister will also allow new construction.”

“We put pressure on the ministers,” he added. “It’s impossible that during a Trump administration, which says that it has no problem with construction in Jerusalem, there will be an instruction not to build…Jerusalem isn’t a settlement. End of story.”

In the upcoming days, the Local Planning Committee of the city will convene to re-approve the frozen plans as some of the approvals have already expired.
