Palestinian media outlets claimed on Tuesday that a young protester was killed by IDF fire near the Gaza border. According to the reports, the Palestinian approached the fence from the Shuja’iyya area and tried to tamper with it.

A few hours later, the IDF confirmed that troops opened fire on a group of Palestinians who tampered with the fence and even crossed the border into Israel. The military also released a video of the incident.

Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman visited the towns near the Gaza border. “I came here to express my appreciation and gratitude to the IDF soldiers who did professional work—determined work—and allowed the nation of Israel to celebrate the first night of Passover and the Passover holiday, at least until today, in peace, security and happiness,” Liberman stated.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Gaza periphery residents who continued with their normal routines, didn’t panic and weren’t scared,” he added. Liberman then warned Hamas and the residents of the coastal enclave against holding additional border protests. “I think the other side also understands that they shouldn’t continue and I’m warning them against the continuation of the provocation,” he said. “We’ve outlined clear rules of the game and we aren’t planning to change them. Every person who approaches the fence is endangering his life.”

In the massive “March of Return” event, 17 Palestinians were killed. The IDF stressed that the people who were shot had approached the security fence and were threatening the soldiers on the other side of the border. In addition, the Israeli military clarified that at least 11 of the Palestinians who were killed were known terrorists. Two of them even opened fire on IDF soldiers during the event.
