North Korea has tested intercontinental ballistic missiles loaded with anthrax, according to a report in the Japanese publication Ashai. The newspaper cited an anonymous intelligence source.
According to the report, the tests were conducted to ensure the survivability of anthrax, a potentially lethal biological pathogen, in high-temperature environments such as those generated when missiles re-enter earth’s atmosphere. The source claimed that the regime is looking to develop biological loaded ICBMs due to insufficient capabilities for reaching the US with a missile loaded with a nuclear warhead.
The report comes a day after Washington mentioned North Korea’s biological and chemical developments in US President Donald Trump’s new national security strategy, claiming that Pyongyang is “pursuing chemical and biological weapons which could also be delivered by missile.” According to Ashai, an unconfirmed intelligence report claimed North Korea has already succeeded in such experiments.
