Some 20 riots broke out today (Saturday) throughout Palestinian territories as heightened tensions and calls for rage remain. Two Israeli policemen and, according to the Red Crescent, some 12 Palestinian rioters were injured during clashes in East Jerusalem.

At some 20 locations throughout the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, violent confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli security forces continue into Saturday evening. The Red Crescent says that 12 Palestinian rioters were injured during clashes in East Jerusalem today (Saturday).

As reported earlier by JOL, about 450 Palestinians gathered earlier at Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem, throwing rocks. Meanwhile, several dozen Palestinian youths blocked Salah al-Din Road in East Jerusalem and confronted Israel Police, who hurried to disperse the crowd but remained in the area with increased deployment. Six stone-throwers were arrested and two policemen that were lightly injured received medical treatment at the scene.

Clashes also took place in Bab a-Zawiya in Hebron, at the northern entrance to Bethlehem and in the Shu’fat, Gaza, and Aida refugee camps. In addition, violently angry mobs marched from Gaza City towards the security fence in Khan Yunis, and from Rafidia Hospital near Nablus to Huwara. The Palestinians reported tear gas was used against the rioters, as well as one injury due to IDF gunfire.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit reported that violent riots broke out in 20 different locations in the West Bank and Gaza where three people were slightly injured and one rioter was arrested: “In the Judea and Samaria region, about 600 Palestinian rioters lit tires on fire, threw Molotov cocktail and rocks towards IDF and Border Police forces.”

“The main focal points for the disturbances are in Rachel’s Tomb and Tulkarm. The IDF is responding by through measures of riot dispersal at the primary sites in order to scatter the angry crowds. In the Gaza Strip, some 450 Palestinians are rioting at eight locations along the fence by burning tires and throwing rocks over the fence towards IDF forces.”
