The red alert was heard in the afternoon hours in the western Negev. Shortly after, it became clear that a rocket exploded in an open area, causing no damage or injuries. Yesterday, the terror alert level was raised in Southern Israel for fear of a retaliation following the assassination of a Palestinian terrorist by the Israeli Air Force.
The rocket fire comes after yesterday morning; Palestinian terrorist Abdullah Hareti was critically wounded by Israeli missile fire while riding a motorcycle with another man. He died shortly afterwards. He was active in the Popular Resistance Committee and was identified as involved in the global jihadist movement, engaging in terrorism both in Gaza and along the Israeli-Sinai border.
Last Saturday, a qassam rocket was launched from Gaza into an open area in the Sha’ar Ha-Negev Regional Council, causing no injuries or damage. The rocket came after last Thursday; three rockets were launched into Israel. The alarm was sounded in the evening hours of the city of Ashkelon and the western Negev, following a grad rocket that exploded in an open area near the city.
