Russia has announced that it will be extracting some of its forces stationed in Syrian territory along with the Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier. A senior-level official from the Russian Armed Forces’ headquarters announced that in light of developments on the front, the amount of troops will be reduced.

“In accordance with the decision of the supreme commander of the Russian armed forces Vladimir Putin, the Russian Defense Ministry is beginning the reduction of the armed deployment to Syria,” Gen. Valery Gerasimov announced on TASS Russian News Agency.

Gerasimov also stated that Russia’s naval carrier group, led by the Admiral Kuznetsov, will be the first to return to Russia at the end of its operational activities. Last month, Putin said that his country is willing to reduce the amount of its forces present in Syria only through a ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the opposition forces. An agreement was signed upon, but was also breached.
