After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clarified that Israel will continue to intervene in Syria in accordance with its security interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that the Iranian presence in the war-torn state is legitimate. Lavrov then accused the US Air Force of aiding ISIS.

Moscow stated that it never promised that the pro-Iranian forces in Syria would retreat, Russia’s RIA news agency reported Tuesday. The news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who added that the Iranian presence in Syria is legitimate.
Lavrov then slammed the US military intervention in Syria, claiming that the US Air Force’s operations actually protect ISIS.
On Monday, JOL News reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that he told the US and Russia that Israel will continue to operate in Syria in accordance with its security interests. “We protect our borders, our country, and we will continue to do so,” Netanyahu stated during a Likud meeting. “We are doing this with a correct combination of firmness and responsibility.”
Netanyahu’s statements were made just two days after the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Asia. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the crisis in Syria and even issued a joint statement in which they expressed an agreement to expand the ceasefire along the Syria-Lebanon-Israel borders. Israeli officials voiced their concerns about the agreement, which may clear the path for Iranian presence near the border with Israel.
