According to CNN news, US intelligence investigators believe that Russian hackers infiltrated the computers of the state News Agency in Qatar and planted fake news, which later contributed to the crisis among the Gulf states and the Arab world.
On May 23, a report was published in the Qatar News Agency, which claimed that Qatari leader Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani expressed doubt that US President Donald Trump will survive his entire term as president. In addition, the report quoted the leader in a friendly speech towards Iran and Israel. According to the investigators, this report greatly influenced the development of the crisis in the Gulf states and the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar.

According to the report, Russia seeks to deepen the rift between the US and its allies by performing cyber-attacks such as publishing fake news and disinformation, a tactic suspected of being used in the election in France, Germany and other countries.
The report reveals that an FBI team was sent to Doha to help the Qatari government investigate the breach. Intelligence collected by the US points to a direct link between Russian hackers and the breach. It is unclear whether the hackers acted independently or were employed by the Russian intelligence services.
