Russia’s Ambassador in Turkey Andrey Karlov was assassinated today (Monday) by an armed gunman as he spoke at the opening ceremony of an art exhibition in Ankara. A witness claims that the shooting stopped only after the ambassador was shot.
Turkish special forces were deployed to the scene and it appears that the shooter has taken hostages. Other reports claim that the shooter was eliminated by the Turkish police.

Video footage of the assassination shows the ambassador falling to the ground as an armed man (probably a security guard who was assigned to protect the ambassador) walks forward and calls out, “We are dying in Aleppo, and you’ll die here.”
While no official announcement about the identity of the shooter or his motives has been made, Russian officials have pointed the finger at Islamic extremists.
