According to an official Hamas report, a senior level commander responsible for organizing terrorist cells in the West Bank was eliminated in Gaza after being shot at close range by unknown persons.
Last night (Friday), Hamas’ military wing officially reported that one of its senior level commanders Mazen Faqha was eliminated in Gaza. According to the reports, Faqha was shot with a suppressor at close range in the neighborhood of Tel al-Hawa.
The circumstances of the incident weren’t detailed in the official statement, however, Hamas spokespersons in Gaza already blamed “Israeli agents” for the elimination. “The elimination of Mazen Faqha was planned and executed by Israel,” Hamas’ military wing wrote. “The enemy will pay a price equal to the assassination of a Shahid. Those who play with fire will burn from it.”
In 2002, Faqha was arrested by Israel after sending a suicide bomber on a bus and murdering 9 people. He was convicted and sentenced to 9 life sentences but was released as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal in 2011 and deported to Gaza.
In the past several years, it was reported that he was in charge of organizing terrorist cells in the West Bank and his name was even linked to the planning of the 2014 kidnapping of the 3 teenagers Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Frankel and Gilad Shaar.
