Over the past several months, all IDF recruits received pepper spray. Starting in July, all soldiers, female and male, will be obligated to carry the spray with them wherever they go, unless they have a weapon.
Today (Tuesday), IDF’s website published that the military will start enforcing the new command in less than 3 months. The command applies to soldiers in mandatory service, officers until the rank of Captain and career soldiers until the rank of Warrant Officer. However, the command does not apply to any soldier who carries a weapon.
One of the IDF officers in charge of formulating the command explained: “Our goal is to provide both male and female soldiers who don’t carry a gun with another option of protecting themselves if necessary.”
Until today, only female soldiers were given the pepper spray.
