The Swedish political system severely criticized a right-wing politician’s remarks, in which he implied that Muslims are not entirely human. “If at one end of the scale you are 100% human and at the other end you are 100% Mohammedan, all Muslims are located somewhere along that scale,” said Swedish Democrat Martin Strid.

A right-wing politician in Sweden has outraged the country after making racist remarks against Muslims. Swedish Democrat (SD) Martin Strid, whose party is anti-immigration, stated during a party conference that if there is some sort of scale for human beings, not all Muslims are completely human.
“If at one end of the scale you are 100% human and at the other end you are 100% Mohammedan, all Muslims are located somewhere along that scale,” Strid said. “ISIS, for example, is very close to the 100% Mohammedan side. If you are a former Muslim, you have come quite close to the 100% human side.”
Many SD politicians quickly rejected Strid’s statement after his speech was recorded and broadcasted on the internet. The SD secretary called the remarks “racist” and said that he expects the politician to be deposed from the party. “This is possibly the worst statement I’ve heard on this matter,” said the SD party leader. “It’s very close to racism.”
Strid has since apologized for his remarks, stating that “this is an unfortunate statement and I expressed myself clumsily.” The Swedish politician added that he understands how his words can be misconstrued. “I know many Muslims and I’m friends with many of them. People are people, of course.”
