At least 80 people were killed and about 350 were injured when a car bomb exploded today (Wednesday) in the heart of Kabul’s diplomatic quarter near the presidential palace. Local Afghan police stated that the blast occurred near the German Embassy in Kabul’s fortified entrance. No one has claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
“It was a car bomb near the German embassy, but there are several other important compounds and offices near there too,” stated Kabul Police Spokesman Basir Mujahid. “It is hard to say what the exact target is.”

A German security official updated that it is still unknown whether any of the German embassy’s staff were injured in the explosion however, it seems that some of the local staff were wounded. French European Affairs Minister Marielle de Sarnez stated that the French embassy was also damaged as a result of the blast but, it is unknown at this point if any French citizens were injured.
