Israeli party leaders on Sunday agreed to support a draft bill enabling capital punishment for terrorists.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the leader of the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party, said in a statement the death penalty is “a significant deterrent,” citing the murder of IDF soldier Ron Yitzhak Kukia in Arad last week.

“We cannot have terrorists know that after committing a murder they’ll go to prison, enjoy the comfortable conditions and possibly be released in the future,” he added.
