Thailand is in shock. A man murdered yesterday (Tuesday) his 11-month-old daughter on the Thai island of Phuket, filming his actions and broadcasting them live on Facebook.
Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy contacted Facebook on Tuesday afternoon, requesting the removal of the said videos 24 hours after they have been uploaded. Following the horrific murder, the father committed suicide.
A Facebook spokesperson said: “This is an appalling incident and our hearts go out to the family of the victim. There is absolutely no place for content of this kind on Facebook and it has now been removed.”
Yesterday, two live videos were uploaded to Facebook, documenting the horrific murder. The Thai Police immediately reported that they are investigating how the videos may be removed.
“We did the best we could but there’s the time difference issue because Facebook is headquartered in San Francisco,” the Thai Police claimed in regard to the long period of time it took to remove the video from Facebook. “In the future, we will discuss inappropriate online content, whether on Facebook or YouTube or Instagram, and how we can speed up taking this content down,” the police added.
