A caricature that has gone viral was first published by The New York Times in the opinion section next to a column by Thomas Friedman on immigration policy.
In the caricature, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu appeared as a guide dog with a Star of David leash while the US President Donald Trump is seen with a kippa (Jewish skullcap) holding onto the leash.
The implication speaks for itself, that Trump is a blind man who is being led by Netanyahu.
According to an investigative report by the Jerusalem Post, the cartoon was pulled by the New York Times from the work of Portuguese political cartoonist António Moreira Antunes
Antunes, who publishes under the name “Antonio” has a long list of scathing antisemitic cartoons such as these;
After a wave of backlash the New York Times removed the caricature on its online news edition. They also offered an apology by saying that it was “offensive” and” it had been an error of judgment to publish it”.
