A few short hours after two red alert sirens were heard in southern Israel within one hour, a third rocket launched towards Israeli communities from Gaza landed and exploded on a street in Sderot causing damage to surrounding vehicles. One woman was treated by Magen David Adom for shock.
Watch: IDF attacks four terrorist targets in Gaza in response to rocket fire
Red alert sirens sounded in southern Israel three times last night (Friday) in the regional councils Sha’ar HaNegev, Sedot Negev, Hof Ashkelon, Eshkol and in the city of Sderot. As previously reported by JOL, the Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted the first rocket fired towards the Israeli communities, while the second rocket exploded in an open area outside of Israeli territory.
The third rocket launched a few hours later, landed and exploded on a street in Sderot causing damage to nearby vehicles. At least one woman suffered from shock and received medical treatment from Magen David Adom personnel dispatched to the scene.

In response to the series of rocket fire, the IDF attacked four terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip. “The targets which were attacked were two sites for the manufacture of weapons, a weapons depot, and a military compound. At each target, a number of internal elements were attacked as well,” stated the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. “The IDF views the rocket fire towards Israeli communities gravely. Hamas is held solely responsible for what occurs in the Gaza Strip.” According to Palestinian reports, a senior commander of Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades was killed and 25 other Hamas terrorists were wounded.
A red alert siren was also sounded Thursday evening in the Hof Ashkelon and Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Councils though no rockets landed in Israeli territory. The alert level in the area was raised days ago in anticipation of Trump’s declaration. The recent rocket launches come amid massive riots that first broke out after Fatah and Hamas called for direct confrontations with Israeli security forces following Wednesday’s announcement.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada and called the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “a declaration of war against the Palestinians.” In a mass protest rally in Gaza on Thursday morning, Haniyeh added that Hamas is already preparing for an intifada against “the occupation and the Zionist enemy.”
