It was the Israel Prison Service who placed the cookies, tortit candy bar and salt in the cell of Marwan Barghouti, the senior level terrorist, who is responsible for the death of 5 people and who is presently leading a hunger strike inside Israel’s prions. Barghouti did not resist and broke the strike on its 22nd day.

This is not the first time when Barghouti found it difficult to stand behind the conditions of the strike. In 2004, during another hunger strike, he was caught on camera eating as well and placing the plate among his belongings.

As reported previously on JOL, Marwan Barghouti is a Tanzim terror leader and a founder of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. He is also a member of the Fatah Central Committee. He was directly involved in the murder of 5 people during the Second Intifada between 2001 and 2002. The court found him responsible for a June 2001 attack in Maale Adumim in which a Greek monk was murdered, a January 2002 terror attack on a gas station in Givat Ze’ev, a March 2002 attack at Tel Aviv’s Seafood Market restaurant in which 3 people were murdered and a car bomb attack in Jerusalem.  He was given 5 life sentences plus 40 years for these crimes.

Barghouti was indirectly involved in dozens of other terror attacks but was acquitted for 33 other murders due to the lack of evidence for his direct involvement. He was also charged with attempted murder, membership in a terror organization and conspiracy to commit a crime.
