US President Donald Trump delivered the final speech on Thursday, the fourth and final day of the Republican National Convention.
“With a heart full of gratitude and boundless optimism, I proudly accept this nomination for president of the United States”, he said, addressing the RNC.
His speech wraps up the RNC, finalising a row of speakers that included his daughter Ivanka Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Rep. Jeff Van Drew, Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, US House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, UFC president Dana White, and others.
Trump began his remarks by voicing support for those impacted by Hurricane Laura after the Category 4 storm made landfall last night in the United States. He thanked his family, from the first lady to his children, then commending his vice president, Mike Pence.
Trump vowed to return America to its pre-COVID levels, promising to rebuild the country and achieve “record prosperity”.
“We will lead America into new frontiers of discovery and reach new heights of achievement”, he said.
Throughout the speech Trump verbally attacked his rival, Democratic candidate Joe Biden, even calling him a “destroyer of American greatness” at one point. He slammed Biden as “weak”, and denounced the Democrats as a “failed political class”.
“For 47 years, Joe Biden took the donations of blue-collar workers, gave them hugs and even kisses”, he said. “And told them he felt their pain, and then he flew back to Washington and voted to ship their jobs to China and many other distant lands.
“Joe Biden spent his entire career outsourcing their dreams and the dreams of American workers, offshoring their jobs, opening their borders, and sending their sons and daughters to fight in endless foreign wars, wars that never ended”.
