US President Donald Trump came to Capitol Hill in order to deliver a speech in the US Congress and he outlined a new government policy: “We are a nation that stands united in condemning hatred and evil in all its forms.”
US President Donald Trump spoke in the US Congress and presented the new administration’s overall policy. In his opening remarks, Trump condemned the wave of anti-Semitic incidents that occurred in the US in recent weeks.
“Recent threats targeting Jewish community centers and vandalism of Jewish cemeteries remind us that while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hatred and evil in all its forms,” Trump stated.
Trump’s first remarks in front of the US Congress sought to send out a message supporting reconciliation and unity: “A new chapter of American greatness is now beginning. Our allies will find that once again America is ready to lead.”
“Our obligation is to serve, protect and defend the citizens of the United States,” Trump stressed. “We are also taking strong measures to protect our nation from radical Islamic terrorism. The vast majority of individuals convicted for terrorism-related offenses since 9/11 came here from outside our country. We cannot allow our nation to become a sanctuary for extremists.”
For this reason, Trump developed a plan “to demolish and destroy ISIS. We will work with our allies including our friends and allies in the Muslim world to extinguish this vile enemy from our planet.” In the continuation of the speech, Trump stated that he has imposed sanctions on Iran’s ballistic missile program and “reaffirmed our unbreakable alliance with the State of Israel.”
“Democrats and Republicans should get together and unite for the good of our country and the good of the American people,” Trump proclaimed. “My job is not to represent the world. My job is to represent the United States of America. America is willing to find new friends and forge new partnerships, where shared interests align. The time for small thinking is over. I am asking all members of Congress to join me in dreaming big and bold and daring things for our country.”
