U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman told the Israel Hayom newspaper that the Trump Administration never opposed any Israeli construction plans in the occupied West Bank.
”According to Friedman, “Israel should not have to ask the U.S. permission” to build in the occupied territories.
The PLO has Accused the U.S. of encouraging Israeli colonial expansion in the West Bank.
“If we have something to say, we say, “Do we really have to go that far? Can’t you build closer to the existing settlement,” Friedman said as an example of Washington’s remarks to Israeli housing plans.
Friedman added that Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration acknowledges U.S. reservations and takes them into consideration.
The U.S. ambassador said President Trump believes that Jewish settlements are not an obstacle to peace.
He also said that unlike the Barack Obama administration, the Trump Administration does not examine every home built in the West Bank. “We never tell the Israeli government, “this should be off the list.”
