US President Donald Trump conveyed has given a direct phone number the Iranians in case they want to come back to the negotiating table, reports CNN news agency.

According to the report, the White House gave the number to Switzerland and asked them to be its a mediator by giving the number over to Iran. The White House is stressing that Trump’s offer to talk with the Iranians is sincere and isn’t a joke.

This follows last weeks press conference when President Trump said that a military confrontation with Iran “is possible”.

“We have information that you don’t want to know about. They were very threatening and we have to have great security for this country and many other places,”  Trump said at the press conference.

Then, when asked if a military confrontation with Iran was possible, Trump replied: “I guess you could say that always, right? I don’t want to say no, but hopefully, that won’t happen. We have one of the most powerful ships in the world that is loaded up and we don’t want to do anything.”

The US President made it clear that he does not want to hurt Iran, rather just that he doesn’t want them having nuclear weapons.

“What they should be doing is calling me up, sitting down. We can make a deal, a fair deal, we just don’t want them to have nuclear weapons. It’s not too much to ask, and we would help put them back to great shape,” he said.

It has been reported that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, tipped the United States about the Iranian threat that targeted US interests in the Gulf area, that prompted the US to send the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the region.
