US President Donald Trump attacked the media in a series of tweets regarding the situation in Puerto Rico on Saturday. “FakeNews critics are working overtime,” Trump tweeted, “but we’re getting great marks from the people that truly matter!” Several Puerto Rican mayors have criticized Trump in recent days, claiming that their cities are not getting the funding and aid that they desperately need from the US government. “Results of recovery efforts will speak much louder than complaints by San Juan Mayor,” Trump wrote in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Trump was harshly criticized over the fact that he decided to spend his weekend at a golf course and visit Puerto Rico next week, about two weeks after Hurricane Maria destroyed the island that is home to 3.4 million American citizens. Trump is claiming that the criticism against him is a conspiracy by the media and Democratic Party.

Trump’s tweets came after San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz complained about the US government’s lack of response to the crisis during an interview with CNN. “We’re dying here,” she said. “We truly are dying here. I keep saying it: SOS. If anyone can hear us; Mr. Trump can hear us, let’s just get it over with and get the ball rolling.”
