US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has decided to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote in a tweet.

Tillerson and Trump had appeared to be clashing on major foreign policy issues for quite some time. Last year, Tillerson said that the United States has direct lines of communication to North Korea and was using them to try to resolve the tensions between the countries. Trump quickly dismissed Tillerson’s statement on Twitter. “I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man,” he wrote, referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un by a nickname he coined.

More recently, Tillerson told reporters in Africa less than a week ago that talks between the president and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un would be premature. However, later that day, the White House announced that Trump has decided to meet Kim by May. Trump himself wrote a tweet about the matter, saying that the meeting is being planned.
