US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to begin the construction of a wall on the Mexican border, one of his main campaign promises.
Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer said building the wall is “a commonsense first step” to ensuring security along the country’s southern border. “This will stem the flow of drugs, crime, illegal immigration into the United States,” he said.
In an interview with ABC, Trump continued to insist that Mexico was going to pay for the wall, a notion utterly disputed by Mexico itself long ago.
“There will be a payment,” Trump said. “It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States.”
