In his crusade against terrorist organizations, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to officially classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group as he did recently for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Pentagon has expressed its reluctance to do so, fearing further tensions between Washington and Turkey as the Muslim Brotherhood is tied by the hip to Turkey’s ruling AK Party.
According to the White House, the president’s decision comes after consulting with US national security officials as well as with “some countries in the Middle East”.
It is widely speculated that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s White House is the one who is pushing Trump. The Muslim Brotherhood has been a constant thorn in el-Sisi’s side.

The brotherhood of the Muslim Brotherhood was created in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan Al-Banna. The ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood is to institute a pan-Islamic, totalitarian, dominating regime that would impose Sharia law everywhere.
