As the tensions between Washington and Pyongyang continue to escalate, US President Donald Trump commented on the situation during a press conference Friday. When asked about the “locked and loaded” comment he made on Twitter, the president said: “We are looking at that very carefully, and I hope that they [North Korea] are going to fully understand the gravity of what I said, and what I said is what I mean.” Trump also said that North Korea’s Kim Jong-un “will truly regret” launching an attack against the US.

In addition, the US president criticized the media, which has accused him of being reckless regarding the tensions with North Korea. “If somebody else uttered the exact same words that I uttered, they’d say: ‘What a great statement, what a wonderful statement,” Trump explained. “But I will tell you, we have tens of millions of people in this country that are so happy with what I am saying because they say, ‘Finally, we have a president that’s sticking up for our nation and frankly, sticking up for our friends and our allies.’”

Trump spoke last night with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the situation with North Korea. According to the White House, the two leaders agreed that North Korea needs to end its provocations and reaffirmed their commitments to convincing Pyongyang to stop its nuclear program.
