US President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort has surrendered to the FBI, CNN reported Monday. According to the report, which cites a source with direct knowledge of the matter, a sealed indictment was filed against Manafort on Friday. The court document was unsealed a few hours after it was reported that Manafort turned himself into the authorities.
In addition, Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign official, turned himself in shortly after the news about Manafort was reported. According to the indictment, both Gates and Manafort were charged with “conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.”
Trump eventually responded to the news about Gates and Manafort on Twitter in a pair of tweets. “Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign. But why aren’t Crooked Hillary & the Dems the focus?????” Trump wrote. “….Also, there is NO COLLUSION!”
