Though the president had originally refused to comment on former FBI chief James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, US President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz, held a short press conference Thursday evening. Kasowitz emphasized to the reporters that the president had never asked Comey to stop the investigation into Michael Flynn. According to the lawyer, Comey’s testimony proved that “the president never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr. Comey stop investigating anyone.”
Regarding the Russian investigation, he added that “Mr. Comey has now finally confirmed publicly what he repeatedly told the President privately: The President was not under investigation as part of any probe into Russian interference.”
Finally, Kasowitz said that, contrary to Comey’s testimony at the hearing, President Trump had never asked for his loyalty. At the same time, the lawyer accused Comey of being responsible for leaking information from the organization’s ranks.
